Taiko drumming combines music, communication and teamwork, with a touch of dance and martial arts, into a uniquely dynamic art form. Taiko drumming is fun and exciting to learn at any age. As our youngest students grow as taiko drummers, they enjoy the experience of learning rhythms, moving through space, and playing together, as well as picking up some Japanese language and culture. All classes have the opportunity to participate in our annual recital in June.

+ How young can kids start taiko classes?

Classes are available for students as young as 3 years old.

+ Are there any extra start-up costs?

Students are required to purchase their own pair of “bachi” (drum sticks). Bachi are available for purchase at the Taiko Center (typically $10).

+ Will my child/ren have any performance opportunities?

Every June, we produce a full recital and concert at a local theater. All students are encouraged to participate in this annual event.

+ Is participation in the recital/concert required?

Participation in the June recital/concert is optional, but participation is highly encouraged as it can be a beneficial and educational experience. Our Spring term curriculum will focus on Recital preparation and participation.

+ Do we need to commit to the whole year?

Taiko Tots are enrolled on a monthly basis. Taiko Youth students enroll for 2019-2020 classes by session: Fall session, Winter session, and Spring Recital session.
